Medium Blue in a can?

Medium Blue in a can? - 04/27/19 11:00 PM

I'd like to repaint the dash in my '72 Duster. The interior paint code is B5 while the exterior was a light blue. Just wondering if someone sells B5 in a can? I looked on ebay and Summit and a few other places like that but didn't find anything. I assume someone is making a nice profit by putting the popular colors into spray cans but I haven't found it yet. Anyone know of a source?

I think that should be more like B7, though with a different name if it's suede finish, which I think it should be.
I'm using my '70 Duster as reference here.
You can check HerbsParts.com, or vendors like Dante's, Classic Industries, etc.
I'm sure someone else can add input or correct me if I'm wrong.

Wasn't there someone selling the suede dash paints on here?

I'm in the same boat looking for the suede paint in a color for my steering column. It's actually pretty tough to find it.

One vendor Instrument Specialties has the OE PPG Duracryl Lacquer for $250/pint in a color. 'spensive pint 'o paint

Mopaint which is now Kolor Korrect used to sell it in spray cans and it says they have it available on their webpage but when I inquired about it recently they told me it was no longer available. Year One sells the (mostly) correct colors but it does not have the texture in it.

If you can find it locally I believe SEM makes some type of textured clear in a can though it may not match the OE suede.

I have never heard of anyone putting the correct suede paint in a can.

The paint is supposed to have a slightly textured look.

There might be a few States that will still sell you that paint but it is not cheap.

Five years ago that paint was $100 - the ingredient to make it is going away. Better get it while you can.

About 10-12 years ago, I bought a can of it from Mopaint for my old '71 B5 blue Dart with a blue interior, probably the same thing that Andy is looking for. It was dead nuts.

I don't really care about having the correct finish, I'd just like the correct color. It is a race car not a show car. I'd think I'd could find B5 in a spray can somewhere. I've looked at most of the usual suspects so far and I don't see anyone selling the classic colors in a can.

What is the ingredient, like a mica or something? Even though it's dull there is a slight metallic quality to it.

Try Year One. I recently bought a few cans from them, the colors are close enough for horseshoes or hand grenades.

It's good to have the textured paint on the column though, cuts down on reflective glare.

Try here, Andy-

www.paintscratch.com

Found it when I was looking for the correct color to paint the model of my first car. Touch-up, spray cans, pints, etc....

If the color is represented in a swatch/chip, it could be mixed and loaded in a can. Have had this done before. Most paint shops can do this.

Thanks for their link Tim! I think I'll send them a part with my 64 Belvedere's light blue and get a metal single stage kit & a kit for the interior. I always had a local paint store match my colors & put them in a spray can. Worked well, but was $75 per can for paint alone.
Andy could always see if a local paint store could mix a can of B5 matched to a part sample if he has one.

I've had local parts store/paint places put that in a can for me. And I live in rural Arkansas so we have nothing. I was doing under the hood. I did base coat/clear coat and it turned out perfect but you can get the one pass paint.

Brite Blue Poly. Ditzler 14096
and Dark Blue Poly Ditzler 14090

Bright Blue was on the roof rails.

Dark Blue on everything else.
