Testing E-body factory switches

Testing E-body factory switches - 03/28/19 07:50 PM

Hello, I found two switches that were left over from a prior project. Pns are 2947305 and 2947411, which should be E-body headlamp and rear defogger. The car was sold so I can't test them in the car, how would I test these with a multimeter to see if they are good or not?

Thanks

I use a multi-meter and do continuity tests on them.
Using the FSM schematic wiring as a guide,I "turn on" the switch and check each connection pertaining to the setting the switch is at.
Pretty simple actually,Red terminal on my meter I use as power going in and black as power going out.
The spades on the switches are marked as well.
My multi-meter has a setting where it beeps when I close a circuit.
Hope this helps.

I don't have a FSM and I wasn't going to buy one for a car I don't own anymore. What do you set the multimeter to? I am fine to follow instructions to diagnose things but I have no clue what function is appropriate for a given task. Thanks

to the lowest ohm setting it has. You would be checking continuity in the "on" position(s). Likely you can figure out which terminals are which from visual/experimentation AND www.mymoparts.com would likely have schematics.
