Rechroming Bench Seat Medallions

Rechroming Bench Seat Medallions - 02/23/19 04:51 PM

After walking the face of the earth I finally got a set of seat medallions for my '69 bench seat Roadrunner. They need to be re-chromed and have the vinyl insert changed. My question is; what kind of re-chroming should I have done? Anything I've had done in the past resulted in a hard chrome finish that would crack if flexed a lot. The medallion covers would have to be re-crimped onto the bases following re-chroming and I am afraid of the chrome cracking. Any thoughts? Yes, I could just make a cold call to a chrome shop but I'd rather start the conversation knowing something rather than nothing.

Was this an occurring problem on the RR's when they were new?

After chroming reattach with epoxy or better yet windshield urethane, That stuff sticks like nothing I've ever used before and it's a bit flexible. I wish they sold it in smaller tubes.

The set I got have some medallions that are heavily rust pitted on the face. I don't know if this is common or not but I know it is a problem with mine.
