66 coronet /6 to small block swap and exhaust questions. - 02/10/19 06:56 PM

Is there an engine swap kit for /6 to small block for 66-70 B-bodies? Schumacher and other listings are fairly vague on this type of swap. Bigblock swap, it appears so, but not small block. I'd prefer to not remove the K-member.

Anyone with experience on it? My plan is a swap to a 340 I've had sitting around.

2nd question:

Has anyone ran magnum 5.9/5.2 manifolds on a small block in a 66-70 B-body? Trying to run on the cheap and not use pricier original casting manifolds.

Thanks
Chris

Define swap kit. Schumacher makes conversion mounts to let you put your 340 where a /6 was, but there are a bunch of other differences as well.

that would be the very most basic kit you could get.

When I converted my 72 Swinger from /6 to 360 I had to swap the radiator, the throttle cable, the transmission and kickdown, the exhaust, the radiator hoses, the AC hoses, all the accessories, probably could have just swap the mounts but the 360 came from a donor so it was dressed. some of the wires needed length adjustments.

I am probably missing a few other things, but this was back in 93 so it's been awhile and no one was making a kit nor was there a Moparts back then. I did my research, had everything on hand and the swap took me on day to do. I was fully prepped and probably had several days worth of prep done before the swap started.

Just the motor mounts....

The other things you mentioned are expected. I plan on upgrading the radiator, etc, and swap to an 8-3/4. But, yes, planning is my key factor here. Make it as simple and complete as possible before I start.

On a side note '92/early 93 magnum ex manifolds have a ~2 & 5/16" outlet as opposed to a 1&5/8" outlet on the later ones. A guy on FABO is selling ported out manis & you might peruse his post to see what info can be gleaned from it. (might be under "mechanical parts for sale"). I was thinking that a 68-70 340 pass ex mani flows the best (for the pass side) but are rare & very pricey but if I read his thread correctly he is sayin the large mag one does or maybe he is referring to his ported ones (I need to get back over there myself).

Careful with the information, I am 98% sure T
that there is NOT a conversion mount for installing a V8 on the slant 6 k member in the 66 67 Coronet. Even all the way to 70 b body even.

You will need to use motor plates or swap the K member, to a v8 K.

they are pretty ubiquitous. I have had one for sale ($100)for about 6 swap meets

Looks like you are correct

I think you're right, I'm not seeing anything but Hemi mount conversions so far.

Well, you'll just have to cut and paste the mounts on the K member.

Or swap the K-member anyways......

I'm wondering if an A-body kit can be used/modified to fit easier. Worth a try.

I think if I was gonna make my own I'd bolt a set of late model spool mounts to the block, use the trans mount to locate the assembly fore and aft and make a U shaped adapter to bolt the spool mounts to the K member, or cut off the existing mount stands and weld the U shaped adapters tot eh K member.

I like that Idea! Spool mounts should be easier to find.

I know the spool mounts are available new at Napa...probably most any other parts store also...Picked up a set last summer when we put the motor in the Duster...

I think you could tell them you need them for an 86 Diplomat...IIRC they're the same clear back to the 73-up A bodies... twocents

You are not going to find "conversion" motor mounts that bolt to a /6 to a small block. The slant 6 brackets that are welded to the K member are entirely different and in the wrong location for a small block, or a big block. You will have to cut the brackets off the K member, then I would weld the brackets to use the spool mounts on the K member you removed the slant 6 motor brackets from.

Also, an A body k member will not fit on a B body. Gene

Be advised that all of the current production aftermarket spool mounts are the wider driver's side 318 units. You will need a spacer on that mount to make up the difference.

You can see this in the pic of the 360 I was prepping to put into my 87 Diplomat, I used some washers I had lying about.

Trans Dapt might have mounts. It may not be that big of a deal. The passenger side k-frame mount is probably in the same place, and the driver's side isn't far off. Test fit a bare block and trans case, it may not be too bad.
