2005 Ram 1500 wipers - 02/04/19 03:25 AM

Wipers suddenly quit working. They worked the last time I drove it, parked it for about 5 days, went out today to move it to snowblow and they wouldn’t turn on. Relay or fuse? -6F here right now and I have a broken pinky so I’m not to keen on digging around and if someone has an idea of what it is so I can check that first and hopefully save myself some grief

Are the wiper blades frozen down? At -6, any water on the windshield under the wipers will pretty well bond them in place until it melts. Same with the arms, that stuff all has to be free before any of it can move.

A relay is easy, they are all the same, just swap the one for the wiper with one that works for something you don't need at the moment and see if they move. The relay could loose power, or the ground that creates the power flow through the relay. If you swap it out and it works, before you condemn the relay, swap it back in and be sure the relay was the problem. if the replacement works but the original doesn't, the relay is bad. The fuse is either dead or its not. Gene

Wipers aren’t frozen. I’ll swap a relay and see what it does

i have done relay swaps before when the delay function went wonky on my minivan. it fixed the problem. then, just to confirm it was the relay, i put the original back, and the delay worked as designed !
so, i'm going to say it just "may" be a bit of corrosion on the blade connections the relay plugs into. you may just get lucky like i did. but relays are cheap, so if it turns out to be the relay, it ain't the end of the world.
