Where to find a stock torque converter for a 67 street hemI? Any rebuilders have them like the #764 340 unit?

Call Frank Lupo @ Dynamic Converters in Newark Delaware, he may have an original core or point you in the right direction.

The Hemi converter is just a 764 with larger threads in the drive lugs. Some claim to have tapped the lugs oversize in situ.

the lugs are different for a 7/16" bolt street hemi converter than a 5/16" bolt 383 converter. pretty sure a 383 4bbl converter, other than lugs, is the same as a street hemi. the street hemi 7/16" lug is fatter were the threaded bolt hole is vs the 5/16".

The hemi converter has a bump in the case just outside of the snout, the front pump needs to be clearanced so the converter doesn't rub the pump body.

Yes the 7/16 lugs are much larger than the 340 converter.

The machining you show isn't for a factory Hemi converter which has the same bowl as any other 10 3/4" converter. Only for the 10" and smaller require pump cover machining.

Yeah, that's the 764 I mentioned....also used on the /6, 318 and 340.

Well OK that's why I asked. Don't know these details.

I know some have said the clearance issue is on the opposite side of the converter. I have heard the crank side of the converter is clearanced more for the 8 bolt crankshaft mounting. You can do it but need to use thin headed bolts or there is interferance. No experience here, just what I read on here.

I had one in my 68 rr, 383, no modifications to run it.

Did it work any different than the stock converter in the 68 RR?

Not what I'm saying. You could run a hemi converter on a 383 crank but not vise-versa without the thin bolt heads......

how thin are the heads ? would grade 8 bolts be ok to machine down the heads ? if so, a thickness dimension would be great to have ! got tons of regular grade 8 bolts in stock.

thanks for the link, but the last part contained a follow up link to a pic [i think that would show the bolt head thickness] that was not available due to the "file being empty".
most likely because the post was from 2010.

the converter to flex plate screw heads are .190" thick. don't confuse them with flex plate to crank screws that have a .250" head thickness.
