Single stage cast iron color paint

Single stage cast iron color paint - 01/08/19 12:47 PM

I'm building a couple A833s and want to use a quality single stage paint that mimics bare cast iron. In the past I've sprayed POR-15 Metal Mask over DP40 epoxy primer, but have never been completely happy with how it looks or holds up.

Poking around the internet didn't yield anything, so I figured I'd ask if anyone has a good formula for a catalyzed single stage paint? What are you guys using?

I'm posting this here because I figured that I'd get kicked out of the restoration forum because the transmissions weren't painted at the factory. Thanks in advance.

Your local paint store is probably going to be your best bet for catalyzed paint beer

I thought so, too. They can mix the paint if I provide them a paint code or formula.

The only issue I've noticed with painting cast iron is that it really never "looks" like cast iron. IMO the natural look is lost with its filled with paint. Especially with the mil thickness of a 2 component paint system.
I've been thinking about trying this stuff. I read a topic posted a few months ago regarding exhaust manifold coatings. If it works with the extreme heats from the cylinder heads etc.. then it should work great on a cast iron trans. Guys seem to have great long term results.
