Thats an agressive flat tappet. What heads, compression, converter, weight, etc.

Full Ported Magnun Heads (2.02/1.60) 1.6 Roller Rockets.
Compression will be 10.2 (I'm planing install dish piston)
3000/3500 JE Covverter
4.56:1 rear ratio, 28x10.5 MT Tire.
My car is 2.756 Lbs.
Victor 340 Intake with Custom 750 Prosystem Carb (Maybe)
I'm worry about lifter, some firend say me that the liter gallery of magnum is different and my lifters don't fit.

Thats pretty low compression for that cam and more converter(5000 stall) would be a big help. What is you goal performance wise?

About 11sec. I think
But I can change the piston for flat type to get about 12:1.
But what about the lifter??

12 to 1 would be good with that cam. For lifters AMC lifters can be used to oil thru the pushrod. Valve spring choice is vey important with that cam, nothing less than 140lbs seat 350 open and more seat would be fine. A ceramic style lifter with a spring 200lbs seat 450ish open would be better but very $$$.That combo with a race torque converter should run very well.

Check carefully the springs supplied as the springs listed on the Lunati website are often incorrect.

I don't believe it will fit running Magnum heads at tthe 1.6 ratio. They can take IIRC about .550 lift with 1.6s when running the longer chevy valves. You will be way beyond that. Plus, need more static, plus, needs a spring that will fit Magnums with enough pressure. I'm sure Lunati's rating is with 1.5 rocker ratio unless it says otherwise.

Ok, what about use cheby 1.5 rockers??

It's been many years since I went down this road, but as I recall it takes an effort even with .100long sbc valves to get enough installed height to find a spring that is functional. You may also need to run 1.5 rockers, another option would be a different camshaft as the one you've got is more than needed. Sorry I just thought of another problem, what are you going to do about those tiny 5/16" rocker stud bases. I don't think they would live well with the combo you have. They can be drilled and tapped for 3/8" and I've gone so far as to use 7/16" studs, but the meat around the stud gets pretty thin. For an 11 second combo you might want to keep it simple an use a milder cam/spring combo.

Set up properly you don't need a lot of cam to run 11's with a smallblock stroker, when i first put my 416 together i was running only a .494/.513 cam,car when a best of 11.29..then i stepped-up to the .533/.552 cam car went 11.02,i'm putting this same cam in my 366 looking for 11.40's or better,it currently has run a best of 11.79,with the .513/.533 cam..all Lunati "voodoo" cams by the way..

I like the 2nd one better... But I'd run it at 110.

Re: Lunati Solid Cam on 408 Magnum Stroker - 03/15/09 02:50 PM

My 408 Magnum build:

10.2 compression (kept it low - street car... probably should have gone up to 10.7 or so, but oh well). Past 11 and you'll be on race fuel.

1.6 rockers

.600 lift

248/254 @.050 - hydraulic

lobe - 109

This is a pretty aggressive cam for what it was intended for (torque - street car). I am running what equates to about an 800cfm Pro Form. carb. You'd want much more than that if you are taking the car to the strip. My motor is 480 hp, 500 tq. I could probably get more out of it with another carb - but I'm happy with it on the street. My peak hp was at about 5,800 rpm.
