I have put about 20k miles on one in my RV that came with it when i bought it and not sure how many miles the p.o. put on it but it,s been trouble free and runs / starts great.

THE one thing i don,t like about is that it,s not field repairable . If the internal module goes bad you have to send it to MSD for repair . They don,t sell a replacement module for it and they said you have to send it in for repair if you have an issue .

not a fan of proprietary stuff. If I can't get the parts form the local parts store I will pass on the "new and improved" hype.

I heard or read somewhere that the MSD RTR will not work with some heads, does anyone know which ones?

I bought some MSD stuff from our local race car builder last week. We were talking about the fading quality of MSD stuff. His comment was they WILL NOT sell the ready to run Ford SB distributors because they are 3 for 3 with failures.

I run a recurved, rebuilt Chrysler OE magnetic pickup distributor connected to a 6AL analog box. That way I can R&R anywhere with parts from the local parts store. Stone reliability as well.

I ran the rtr distributor in my small block, but converted it over by installing the msd replacement magnetic trigger in the rtr housing in conjuction with the 6al. I used to keep the rtr guts in the trailer so if the 6al died I could reinstall the rtr in the distributor and still run the car. Running mallory dist now.

I ran a RTR in my old bracket car. That was about 15 years ago so I'm not sure whether it was of the older MSD quality or newer. It worked great for my application, small block, 6500-7000 rpm's. It's still running.
However, I must agree with GY3's post. First, in 2015 MSD bought Mallory, Mr. Gasket, Lakewood, Quicktime, and Hays. Then, Holley bought MSD. It's really hard to say whether it's growing pains or an industry run by accountants.
