Six Pack EFI

Should be a good setup for a big inch street Mopar: https://www.hotrod.com/articles/kick-car...-71-challenger/

That will be an improvement for any carbureted Mopar.

The only concern I would have is the non progressive 6 butterflies. Seems like alot of air at tip in. Hope that is not too hard to modulate.

I have a dual throttle body 94 LHS with a 3.5L. It had alot of action in the first 1/4" of throttle.

Other than that, I can't wait to see more injected Mopars.

Anybody tried this set up?

Man I like that. I wish I still had my 69 Road Runner set up as a 6bb A12 clone. Hmmm work, sell hemi, buy A12 hood, air cleaner and intake and new FI system? I'll have to think about that one.

But seriously, it looks like a cool system. I am 99% sure my next two project cars will get EFI setups. Most likely throttle body setups so that it looks stock.

Tales from the Crypt:
Believe it or not Mopar Performance actually developed a special manifold for this app. It looked almost the same as an RB Weiand 6 pack tunnel ram but it had injector bosses and fuel rail mounting bosses built in. I'd never seen anything like it.

It got as far as a plastic prototype which I saw first hand. I could never get any answers on it's background, as the engineering and marketing staff during my tenure had not been around long enough to have been part of any of the M1 PD. And past history of parts that didn't make it to market have even less documentation than the ones that did make it.

Mystery Meat. It was just sitting there to blow people's minds, I guess.
Last I saw it was in 2009. I hope somebody saved it, but some goomba probably threw it away.

Performance can only be compared through seat of the pants, but when wide open, he says it seems to be equal to the 850 he pulled off the car. He also says it runs so much better everywhere else, especially off idle.

The supplied intake sits higher than the intake he was running, but the shorter height of the throttle body allowed the set-up to fit under his stock B-Body hood. The air cleaner height is equal to what he had on there.

Re: Six Pack EFI - 12/04/18 09:30 PM

The Sniper throttle body system improved my car's low speed manners a ton and I'm a guy with a ton of carb experience. I have a pretty good handle on setting up a performance tune so it wasn't like I just had a slobbery 850 double pumper sitting on there.

The other thing that is nice about EFI is the built in data logger. I can take the car out for a short drive then come back and download the data log and review everything. It shows me if the thermostat is working and how the oil pressure changes as the engine warms up and stuff like that. And this is all from a system that you can buy at Summit for $995.

Is there any performance advantage to the fuel injected 6 pack set up relative to a 4bbl version, or is it just for show?

Re: Six Pack EFI - 12/04/18 10:27 PM

Tough question to answer. My guess is that the six pack setup might have a slight advantage for street use but a good single plane with a big 4bbl will make more peak power. The six pack intake is a cork for a high output engine but it makes great power down low.

A tougher question would be comparing a six pack intake to a Performer RPM. I think the Performer RPM will make more power everywhere on the curve than a six pack but I could be wrong. Either way I doubt the difference is much. So a Six Pack these days is really just about looks. Not that there is anything wrong with that. People like the way the look and they perform pretty well so the only downside is the cost and the weight.

I don't think I'd ever put a Six Pack on any car I owned nor would I be interested in spending the money for a Six Pack EFI, but there are lots of guys who are interested in this. So I think it is cool that people can get what they want now.

Re: Six Pack EFI - 12/05/18 03:28 PM

The attraction to these EFI conversions is how much nicer the car starts up runs at idle to redline. Peak power generally the same as a well tuned carb but If I Had the $$ Id run one. Gear heads like to try new things. Cant look at FI necessary as a fuel saver because of the high cost to convert but looking at is a nice fun upgrade in manners is the attraction. At my age and the age of everyone here it sounds fantastic to have an old muscle car with the reliability, ease of driving and manners of a new car.

If your going to go with a six pac efi, go with the original F&B throttle body. I have had mine for 6 years, no issues.
As stated it not a cheap system, but the Wow Factor is cool.

Re: Six Pack EFI - 12/05/18 06:20 PM

unlike the f&B the fitech system is an actual throttle body, where the F&B is a multiport and I would guess that would solve a lot of the fuel distribution problems of a six pack intake. with modern engine controllers you can easily adjust each injector and really tune in the six pack.

Re: Six Pack EFI - 12/05/18 06:36 PM

I spent some time sitting next the to guy who owns F&B at one of Rich's EFI classes. He has a cool design and he obviously knows his way around EFI. I thought about having him build me a custom setup but the Sniper is so much cheaper and it works almost as well so I just went the other way.

If you're going to run a sequential system and trim each injector, then yeah sure. To run a port efi system that delivers equal fuel to each cylinder with a dual plane 6-pack intake that doesn't deliver equal air flow to each cylinder... I think in this case I would rather have the throttle body system. Swap that port efi system over to a weiand 6-pack tunnel ram, now we're talking!

Do not use it as a slur. It is an improper useage of the word.

On a carburetor set up, the progressive set up is a flexible system. Center carb first, out board second when needed. Since the center is roughly 250 cfm and the two out boards are 500 cfm each, (approximately 950 cfm in a 4bbl. rating) I have to agree with the MP writing that is a excellent dual purpose set up that is (probably) only beat by the RPM-AG.

I don’t so readily see a 950 up top a RPM AG being on target for a dual purpose carb on a dual plane intake, but people vary....

Now, the FI-Tec opens all at once. While the FI will monitor everything and make the best of it. I’m sure better than a carb as well. I only see an edge in fuel performance consumption leering to the reported better drivability. Top end HP? Good question!!!!

I still like how the carb system works progressively better.

Do you have a build thread on that?
Can you post there web address?
I’d like to learn more. I’m not completely in love looking at the FI-TEC.
Possibly the complaints I here are from (novice) user error.
