i found this number 3673998 on the radiator in the car and it comes up for a 400 but auto. i also was unable to find a number that is a 4 speed only radiator? any insight? as mentioned in other posts this is a one owner car w/ 46k miles and the owner has changed nothing on this car.

All the late model, 1962 and above, stick shift OEM radiators and stick shift cars came with the same radiator as the automatic cars did but had the built in trans. coolers plugged with NPT brass plugs shruggy
The book I have shows that same part number for it in 1974 B bodies with both 400 and 440 motors with auto. trans minus the intermediate cooling confused work

My white book shows 3673998 as 28" auto also but then it shows a 3673098 for 400/440 28" both transmissions.

Could you have misread the 3998 and it's 3098?

thank you for the replies the number is correct. the owner is adamant that he never changed the radiator or any other mechanical components, could the one you found rjs be for an ac car?

An auto rad got the tranny cooling lines on bottom tank... I don't think manual car would get the same.

the radiator has the provisions for trans cooler lines but they are blocked off with brass plugs

I would bet it's correct and the white book is wrong or maybe not as accurate as it should be. Mine was printed years ago and I really don't believe as much care was taken with 72 and later data.

Look for the date code on the passenger side rail.

I agree w/Cab, my 68 coro r/t 4 speed rad I easily converted to auto radiator simply by removing the 2 plugs, flushing cooler and added the factory brass adapters. (1/8 npt). My local radiator shop old timer told me of such a trick.
