LA water pumps - 10/18/18 11:40 PM

Just curious, but I see that the high volume water pumps have 6 vanes, while the standard flow has 8 vanes. I would think that 8 vanes would flow more than 6 vanes. Can anybody clear this up for me, please?

Thanks

Different drive ratios for different applications, 6 vane for the overdriven. Cavitation issues?

Mine is the 8 vane unit, but I added a anticavitation plate to the vanes. Should that help?

anti-cavitation plates?

Yeah, just a round metal plate with holes in it. Drill through the holes into the impeller and attach with the included rivets. I see some of the new high flow pumps come with.

the 8 vanes would flow more than a 6 vane. A/C would be overdriven 1.33% so less vanes were needed to avoid cav at higher speeds cuz the WP pulley is always speeded up. Just get an 8 blader & weld on a plate, my last one I cut a piece out of an old washing machine panel. Make its OD slightly less than the vane tips so you can weld em there & cut a center hole to weld it there at the shaft. Ideal clearance from plate flat to t cover flat is .040"

Thank you, sir. I already purchased a kit that included a plate and 4 rivets. It's an 8 blade impeller.
