power steering control valve nipple - 10/16/18 03:31 AM
Working on a 77 Volare power steering. The nipple looks like it may have been leaking (kinda hard to tell for sure) I removed the metal nipple and I was surprised there wasn`t a copper washer between the nipple and the aluminum piece. I didn`t see anything in the parts book. I just went out to a 76 p/s box I had that was OE and it has the angled nipple on it. I removed the nipple to see if it has a washer and it didn`t have one either. Whats up with that???? Now I`m really confused. Should it have a washer? If not how does it seal? Older parts book show 1618611 for a washer.

I went out to the garage and checked the spares that i have in the bottom drawer of the toolbox.
Well, this is what I'm gonna tell ya.
Some of them do, and some of them don't.
Guess it's a thing they did, or didn't do, what year(s) or manufacturing plant.
So don't worry about it, or loose any sleep over it, would be my two cents.

Would putting some teflon tape be ok on the top portion of the threads?

Then get one of those earlier thin, copper washers, if they're available, and put that on your valve.
