Struggling with a fuel smell after a drive?

After a year or two of chasing a terrible fuel smell after a drive (like, the next day, and for days afterward), I found a tidbit on the FAST EFI forum about a guy who discovered that Summit Braided hose is vapor permeable, and not really compatible with Ethanol in fuels (it says compatible with gasoline on their site, but not ethanol specifically as compatibility), and that for street fuel, you need to run Teflon.

The summit racing PTFE hose lists "Ethanol" specifically as a compatibility.

I changed mine out, and the smell is gone.

I can take the removed hoses and smell the outside of the braid, and they smell like gas still.

Gasoline doesn't mean pump gas, apparently.

Good to hear. I learn from everyone I have contact with (good or bad!) especially other mechanics. It always makes me shake my head when I see the commercials touting the benefits of E10 (I cant remember the 3 bennies (iirc) at the moment & there might be, but it sure causes us alot of grief.

When I first got my car years ago the PO had that type of hose the length of the car. I was trying to find out why I always smelled gas when I didn`t see any leaks. When I got a sniff of the hose I could where the smell was coming from. The hose reeked of gas.

EFI rated rubber hose is fine with E10 and cheaper than teflon.

It should have SAE 30R9 on the hose itself.

Exactly the mistake I made. He probably dumped the car because he couldn't figure it out. even now, the coiled up braid smells like gas.
