Opinions on this trunk pan, replaced or not replaced? - 09/08/18 03:02 AM

not sure if I am seeing a seam or not down the middle and should those round indentations be cut and have the black body plugs, this is in a 70 satellite

Are you questioning if it's the original trunk pan? If that is the question, I'd say it's not; you can see plug welds on the far right and left hand sides of your picture, not spot welds.

Can you clarify your question a little further? I mean, even if there was a gapping foot long rust whole down the center, it's your car and your decision to replace it or not.

I can tell by the spot welds along the edges that the center is completely not original to the car, if that is what you want to know. The center may have been replaced or it may have been patched, but it appears to be a weld seam near the spare tire and on both sides of the upside down picture. Gene

Junk work that is.

Re-read your title, yes, it has been replaced. As others have pointed out, it was not replaced very well either. It works though; depending on what your friend plans on doing with the car, it does not have to be replaced any time soon. I would definitely subtract money for that job though if the asking price does not already reflect that issue.

If you went through all that work, at least you could have dressed the welds a little better.

Not every car has to be 100% factory correct to be a decent, fun ride.
It is fine to have high standards but unless the car is used for concourse judged events and trailered everywhere, why the hostility?
Yeah, the work looks ugly but is the floor strong? Can it hold weight? Remember people...Before idiots started paying stupid money for these things, they were $800 cars that we used to drive on gravel roads, in snow, rain, extreme heat, etc.

I think you question is a bit vague.

this is in a 70 satellite

My thoughts are is how much does one want to spend on a 70 sat?

Does he plan to keep it?

Make it into a show car or driver?

What does the rest of the car look like, hard to imagine if it had this done that the rest is quality work.

I used half pans on a couple of cars. I did better clean up of the welds and seem and they came out great. I agree that you should look at the rest of the workmanship. If you were to replace them I think you have to use half pans again, since that is needed to fit through the trunk opening.
If the car is good for the price, buy a trunk mat and enjoy it

That's a nice looking car; love the color.

If it's not far, it could be worth a drive to check it out at least.

See, that's the deal. If you want to do a low quality repair and drive it that is fine. Nothing wrong with that.
If you want $25k for your 318 Satellite, well then that low quality repair doesn't make it.

Good for him.
I hope everyone looking at that car comes to the same conclusion.
Car looks nice otherwise, but where else did the builder cut corners?
I would have to think hard about parting with 26 hunert for something with that quality werk...

This is a Sport Satellite with buckets and console, they are a way better looking car than a plain satellite. Car needs to be seen in person, it looks nice in the photos. Small block is a minor problem.
