Black Wrinkle Cast Aluminum Valve Covers

Black Wrinkle Cast Aluminum Valve Covers - 06/07/08 02:05 AM

I'd like to install a set of these on my 440. The ones I've seen so far have an oil filler hole in each cover and caps but my original set has a PCV valve in the right one and an oil filler cap with hose that leads to the air breather in the other.

How can I adapt a set of Black Wrinkle Cast Aluminum Valve Covers to my 440?

Just purchase the necessary grommets,PCV valve and oil filler cap and you are good to go. Or re-use your old ones. The valve covers come with the option of adding additional hols if needed, so you could have both the oil filler caps that come with valve covers and then knock out the holes and add accessories such as the PCV valve and oil filler cap so that all four holes are used. Just get the correct diameter grommets.

1. Make sure you get the grommets designed for cast valve covers--not steel ones. they are thicker.

2. Machine out the holes instead of "punching" them out if you can. They seal better that way.

3. I drilled out the center of one of the passenger side filler cap and put a barbed fitting with a nut on the back to hold the cap together. this allowed me to use the breather hose in a somewhat stock location.

4. Ignore the extra chrome breather--I put that in for fun. If you want to keep the stock configuration, just don't drill that one out.

Hope this helps

P.S. It's a 440--I just keep the 383 pie pan for fun.
