69 Charger trunk lid skin removal - 08/13/18 10:30 PM

Has anyone separated the inner and outer deck lid skins from a 69 Charger? I am thinking about doing this to fix rust issues but can't find any good examples.

Drill out the spot welds and use a heat gun to loosen the blobs of sealer.

Thanks carguy, I have all the tools to get it apart (nice tip about the heat gun, thanks) I did re-skin the doors on my charger, so it will be the same process. What concerns me is unfolding around the rear lip. The way I see it the metal will have to unfold all the way flat or 180 degrees so the inner skin will release from the outer skin.
I was hoping to see some how to's or examples

I know it seems like a good idea, but it doesn't work very well. It will crack at the hem flange.

I understand and agree with you.
What if on the 3 sides I bend the hem up 90 degrees, and along the back lip I grind the edge away? (until I break through the hem)
Then I separate the inner and outer skins, and make my repairs.
Then to put it back together, I hammer dolly and fold the hem back down on the 3 sides. Then I would weld the lip area, at the edge that I ground through?
Do you think I would get warping?

Any suggestions?
