If it is in okay shape you should grab it. 440 blocks will always be worth something.

That's true and they are getting harder and harder to find

ah ha ha ha.....hard to find? im tripping over them and the only way I can seem to get rid of them is to give them away for free....oh and every one wants them sonic tested and numbers matching and std bore and they must be from a road runner or cuda god forbid they are from a C body car ......I guess you guys in cally have scraped them all in the name of clean air.....please

A buddy of mine hauled 5 440's down to Spring Fling two years ago. All truck or C body motors and he sold every single one.

You can still find them here, it's just getting harder. That's all.

I like the guys that want them sonic tested, local cost $175, then want you to sell them the block for $150. There's someone on this forum that expected me to do that for them, nice try!

iagree Had this happen to me recently. 440s are definitely harder to find than they used to be and more expensive now naturally. I try to grab em when I find a decent deal on one, but I have enough stashed away that I can hold out for the cheap ones.
Sold all my 383s for dirt cheap and had trouble getting that for them.

All the ones I see in the PA/MD region the guys seem to be asking $800-1000 for a bare block...not sonic checked either

Supply and demand pally, if you are "tripping over them" because they are "so easy to find" but no one wants to pay your price then it's obvious you think they are made of gold.

Yeah, around $800.00 seems to be the going rate these days. At one time I had (13) complete big blocks, 383, 400, 413 & 440's stacked up & laying around the garage & sold them all for $500-800 each over the years. Now that I went Hemi I really had no use for them.

However, I still have (2) 440 blocks left for my other Charger & Road Runner builds.

Or maybe he doesn’t want to sell them for $200.

Funny how a slightly different head bolt pattern and 3 cross bolted mains can quadruple (or more) the price of a block!

Re: 440 block - 07/21/18 03:50 PM

Gold? no they are made of iron and I have been hard pressed to get any one to spend $400 for one that already has machine work done to it that would need to be done to it anyway. I don't have any plans to use them but im not going to scrap them but I think 400 is a fair price for a cleaned and rough bored block. No not sonic checked but to each his own, just don't say they are hard to find. They are not...

One hears,.. piece of junk, can't build any HP in one, outdated, 50 year old tech, sonic check, all the negativity.
Take em all to the scrap yard and buy a rice rocket, run around sounding like a pi$$ed off bumble bee.
It's Treason I tell ya. Boo Hoo

Re: 440 block - 07/21/18 05:56 PM

Last week I was looking at a complete and running 440. $600.

And that included the wrapper the factory installed it in.

Kinda reminds me of the clowns who feel they need to put "no lowballers" in their CL ads. Much like them your survivors will be dumping your gold plated stuff in a dumpster once the dirt settles and you will have showed us all.

Agree.
Like up at Carlilse some dude had a LD340 intake, playing dumb I asked how much, he said $500. I said why so much, he didn't know but six other guys who had one where asking $600. It was still there Sunday along with the other six. There's your problem.

I’ve raced 440 blocks for over 30 years and never had one sonic checked and I have a sonic checker. I don’t want to know what I already know.
