are 66 and 67 a-body radiators compatable? - 07/17/18 07:13 PM

I know the body style changed, but are '66 and '67 a-body 22" radiators exchange?

I bought this http://www.championradiators.com/plymouth-barracuda-22-inch-small-block-radiator-1966-1969 (EC2374) but the inlet and exit are on the wrong side (new water pump style).

Will this one work: http://www.championradiators.com/Plymouth-Barracuda-17%22-aluminum-radiator-1967-1969 (CC6769).

It is for a stock '66 barracuda 273 2bbl auto. Just looking for driver quality... Would rather not have to drill holes or cut anything to make it work. Also would not want to have the orig recorded as I have already done that once and it only lasted a few years.

Thanks, in advance!

The newer water pump (aluminum) started in 1970 so I would go with a 1970-72 22" style if they have one.

My problem is the opposite, the one they have listed for a '66 is the pass side (which is wrong for a stock iron waterpump motor), but they list a driver side for 67-9, even though they were the same side as the 64-6?

You might use the new alum rad you have & get a '70 up alum pump. it fits fine on any of the t covers but it is was thicker (front to rear) than the older iron pump & will need a fan spacer adjustment. EDIT pump mounting bolt length adjustment also iirc (been awhile). MORE EDIT Maintain the current bolt thread protrusion (need longer bolts) for the alum pump

I forgot something very important & that is the different pulley that will be needed (with the alum pump) to get the belt lined back up & the right depth pulley can be hard to find & yes it might be easier to get another radiator & keep your iron pump. I dont have an ans to your Q about 66-67 radiator interchange without redrilling holes.

If you have an iron pump you need the second one, if you have an aluminum pump you need the first one.

The aluminum pump setup is NOT stock for pre 70 cars.

I went ahead and bought the CC6769 radiator. I put it in tonight, it is a PERFECT fit, even the slotted holes on the bottom of the radiator are the same, trans cooler lines lined right up, radiator hoses lined right up.

The only "minor" issue is it is a 3 core and the orig was a 2 core, so it was a little bit thicker (the fan is a hair closer, but it is a solid fan and still has a 1/2" so it should be good), so I had to slightly bend the trans lines (like a 1/4 or 1/2 in) to make them line up, but other than that it fit perfect.

I am not sure why they list the ones they do as a stock replacement. I know a lot of people upgrade to the new water pumps, but that is not the stock setup - I like having the option to have one that fits with the new style, but...

Too many vendors know nothing about Mopars

Well that worked out good! I would (highly) consider a slightly shorter spacer.
