big block starter

big block starter - 06/18/18 12:34 AM

I have a 440 Source mini starter, I tried installing on 67 Gtx 426 Hemi.

Looks like I need to do custom grinding to get it to fit,

I would like feedback on starters you would recommend. Or input on any that have used the 440 source starter.

Are you using a 143 tooth wheel manual trans application? I have had issues in the past with starter clearance issues on that application. That is even with a Denso mini starter. Does the stud hit the block?

If it's a 4-speed, it takes a different starter; the stock ring gear tooth count is 172 teeth. Robb Mc has the best one, it worked great on my '68 Street Hemi.

the bell housing should take the factory type straight thru starter.

Four Gear, I believe it is a 143, I need to verify, and yes the stud hits the block

Most minis are close or touch.I just install the nuts and cut off part of the stud. That always gives me clearance as the studs are pretty long. That and they sit closer to some blocks. My 440 had to trim the stud.My kids 413 cleared no problem.Rocky
