How to remove clear overspray on windshield - 06/16/18 08:21 PM

Had the hood, scoops & cowl painted "gloss black" and my painter apparently got some clear overspray on my windshield. How do I remove the overspray?

Try a razor.

0000 steel wool works, too, but don't use it on mirror glass, and blow off or wash off the steel wool residue.

If still pretty fresh, a rag with lacquer thinner should work. Be very careful not to spill any on or touch the rag on the fresh paint.

Spray brakleen or spray carb cleaner on a rag will take it off too.

They make a clay called overspray clay from Meguires. Designed to lift off light overspray and not cause consequential damage.

Glass cleaner and a brand new razor blade.

I've used a regular clay bar on glass with good results.

Take a single edge razor blade, mark one side, use that side up and polish it against a piece of glass with edge on glass, apply pressure, rotate in circular motion. Your blade is now honed and will clean glass with no damage.

I would start with the least aggressive and proceed thru the scale getting more aggressive if needed. Light overspray I used a polish or compound.

Lacquer thinner has worked for me before. As mentioned be careful. Keep the can of thinner far away and put a small amount - finger size - on a fresh rag to remove the overspray. That way you will not damage the paint.

A razor blade used carefully is good also... especially on edges where you don't want lacquer thinner to hurt rubber or paint.

In my shop we use a foam type window cleaner, lots of it and a razor blade
