Take a single edge razor blade, mark one side, use that side up and polish it against a piece of glass with edge on glass, apply pressure, rotate in circular motion. Your blade is now honed and will clean glass with no damage.

Lacquer thinner has worked for me before. As mentioned be careful. Keep the can of thinner far away and put a small amount - finger size - on a fresh rag to remove the overspray. That way you will not damage the paint.
A razor blade used carefully is good also... especially on edges where you don't want lacquer thinner to hurt rubber or paint.
