Parking Brake release rod Bushing-69 B body?

Parking Brake release rod Bushing-69 B body? - 05/30/18 02:03 AM

The bushing is missing for my park brake release rod. Of course, the spring comes through the hole when I release the brake and I push the rod back in manually.

I had a few ideas to make it function well enough quick and dirty.

You guys have any ideas or know where a proper bushing can be bought?

Thanks in advance! Oh yeah, I tried the search function first and it was a fail.

MegaParts has them. You will need to remove the release rod to install.

I did see it on Mega Parts. It looks like it comes with a rubber grommet and 2 springs. Is the rubber grommet right for 69? For some reason I thought the part was made of plastic or nylon. Not that I am an originality snob. I'm not. The car is a driver.

If it is a common rubber grommet I may just be able to pick one up locally.

The grommet is available separately. The part# is 199-DR056.You might be able to find something that works locally,I never tried to.

I searched through the local hardware store. If I recall, I found some sort of cord strain relief that I drilled out the inside to fit the rod. It looked different than the stock part, but its not something people notice, so I didn't care.

I just use an old firewall insulation nail.
Cut the head off leaving a slight shoulder that fits on the hole of the bracket.
Is it perfect > No. but it works perfectly and no one will ever see it anyway

I "might" take a look at megaparts, but for now I just cut a notch in a washer, slipped it over the rod (behind bracket) & held it in place with a glob of "dog turd" 2-part epoxy putty.

I found bushings that are "close" and work. I'll take a photo and post later.

Re: Parking Brake release rod Bushing-69 B body? UPDATE - 06/07/18 11:58 PM

I went with a flat washer. I snipped it and spread it then pushed the spring back, slipped the washer on and took a pliers and flattened the washer. Worked like a charm. Can always count on the guys on Moparts to share great knowledge and ideas. Thank you.
