E-Body (Barracuda 1971) Door Lock Cylinder and Gasket

I am replacing the broken door handle on my 71 Barracuda. It had been replaced once before by the dealership....many years ago. Upon disassembly of the broken handle, I did not find a door lock cylinder gasket as is shown in the Plymouth Parts Illustration Catalog. I think the part number is 2583860. Did the service tech leave off the gasket or did this 71 model not require one? I went ahead and purchased a reproduction gasket. It fits the cylinder, but seems to serve no purpose. It does not get sandwiched tightly between the cylinder and the pot metal retainer. I have attached pictures. Any help is appreciated. I am confused!

If you installed the cyl with the thin white gasket in the door then locked it in with the retainer clip (like normal) then installed that other piece on the cyl barrell like it is in the last pic would that be it? Tho I ain't never seen that "other piece" but I have near zero E body exp.

Robert. This has baffled me for a long time now so I have to ask. Why do you respond when you openly admit to not knowing the correct answer? Why not just read when the the answers come in?

because he was not getting a response & I've noticed on occaision that when that happens (many views/no postings), that sometimes when one person finally responds then others seem to jump in (I've seen that pattern somewhat) so I figured that if I put something out there that was maybe a slight bit helpful (I hoped) that others might chime in with more relevent info & that this would potentially help him solve his issue. Might not be straight thinking but my intent is good & I don't think anything in my post was misleading him soooo are we good! (you may not agree with my reasoning but I sure hope you are no longer baffled!).

I see what you are saying and noticed the same thing about no responses. You always say you don't know so there is no mistaking that, which is a good thing.

I have some of these handles but I'm not near them, so can't help, yet.

Robert. Thanks for the reply. The retainer clip that you mention. Are you referring to a "U" shaped clip like the one used on the trunk lock cylinder? If so, the E-Body handle does not use that clip.

The gasket is for cars like A, B & C bodies to protect the paint & seal the hole where the lock meets the door.

E-bodies have the lock mounted inside the chrome handle, so no need for the gasket.

The E-bodies have a much larger gasket that protects the paint & seals the entire opening around the handle itself.

Dave, Yes I was thinking that U clip was across the board, I am learning too, my buddy has an E body but he is extremely busy/hard to schedule a common time. I have an E body stock car but it was a stripped out shell when I got it.

After thinking about this overnight I came to the conclusion that yes you are right, misinformation is misinformation (no matter what the intent) so I will tighten up my game. thank you for the enlightenment.
