Hood Hinges

Hood Hinges - 03/29/18 09:19 PM

The hood hinges on my 69 Coronet are "lazy". That is, when I close the hood I have to go to the back of the hood and push the corners down.

Is this because the springs have lost some of their spring, or is the rest of the hinge just worn out, or both?

Has anyone else had this problem? I know AMD sells them, but does anyone sell just the spring?

Pivot points may be worn? Resto Rick can rebuild them.

I would say the hinges are out of adjustment if you have to push the back corners down. It is certainly that way on the 62-65 cars. Don't know if that newer B body is much different, but I doubt it.

If it is an adjustment, boy, can that be "fun". And moving the hinge in the right direction is really a guessing game.

If your car was an early car as mentioned, I would raise the rear, and lower the front of the hinge to fix that. That doesn't seem right, but it is. Best of luck to you.

Thanks, guys, for the suggestions. If the adjustments don't work, I will contact Resto-Rick.

Read his post on how to adjust a hood that will not go down in the back.
