WHAT ARE THESE RODS?

WHAT ARE THESE RODS? - 03/05/09 12:01 AM

I have a set of new BB Mopar rods that have part number P4532736 AB Lc. On the reverse side it has a small 1 then MOPAR in capital letters and then it says X72 next to it. The small end is 1.090 bushed and the big end is standard Mopar. It has ARP fasteners that are threw bolted. These are an I beam forging. Can anyone tell me what these rods are and what they are worth. I have searched the internet everywhere and can not find them at all. Again, I have NO idea at all what these rods are. Your help is requested!!! Thank you very much. Pictures below.

I don't know what the rod are for but it looks like the small end got really thin when it was honed to install the bushing.

I'd bet those came out of an early crate 440 based wedge

I have searched and searched the internet even for the part number, part number P4532736 AB Lc. These rods are supposed to be high performance connecting rods. But I doubt if that is what these are. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

That number is probably the casting number which is why you are not finding anything

It's a forged rod and will have a FORGING NUMBER, not a casting number. My guess is it's a 3/8" bolted "high performance" rod from around the mid '80s. It is probably forged from a step-up material from the standard rods but I doubt it's a 4340 rod. It probably sold new for big $$$ but it has the same problematic 3/8" rod bolt as the standard rods. I'd use it with a lightweight forged piston in a 3.75" stroke application and it will be fine. Put a big heavy pison on it and rev it to the moon with a 4.15" stroke and it'll be a candidate for failure, same as a stocker. I suppose a brand new set is worth between $100 and $200.

These were a heavy duty replacement rod. They tend to be very heavy, and yes as mentioned, the small ends dont have a ton of material around them. They basically are between a standard LY series rod and a HP or six pack rod. Not very good for any performance application as they are just simply too heavy. I have had several sets of them thru the shop and found the weights?balance to be horrible. They small end weights in particular can be way off, and the bushings are quite often not centered very well. Add that up with the thin bore area, and you cant balance the small ends. The quality control wasnt good. All that being said, maybe yours could be ok. They would make a good stock replacemnt or truck motor rod, thats about it. Not what you wanted o hear, but thats what you have. Not worth a ton of money. As someone mentioned, get 100-200 and be happy.
