Thermo Quad accelerator pump spring and clusters (squirters) - 03/16/18 12:42 AM

From research I found out that (3)Three different accelerator pump clusters (squirters) were available for Thermo Quads. Anyone know how to identify them? are there numbers on them? (added)also is there a way to increase the pump shot? are there different spings for the accelerator pump? Thanks

There is very small numbers stamped in the top 369,370,374. They measure .030,.035,.040 respectively. The 1000 competition series 4847sa squirter is interchangable. Although it looks different without the brass tubes. The one I have has a C and R on top and measures .026

Working on a later model aftermarket Super-quad today, and took off a squirter stamper 393. My .0292 bit fit perfectly in it. Super-quad is the electric choke version.

It looks like I have 365 on my squirter, any idea on the size of a 365?

That's not how they work, is more like a .024 but was wondering what the book spec would of said.

What's the best way (tricks) to increase the pump shot/squirt? Can stretching the spring help? Is there a stronger spring that would increase the shot? Making the squirters larger? how large? Thanks

You can use letter size drill bits and what they call a "pin vise" to carefully hand drill out the nozzles. As for overall volume, I believe the only way to increase it is to have the linkage in the proper hole (closest to the pump) and have it bent so the plunger is topped out. As with any carb, remember that as you go bigger with the squirter size, the duration of the squirt will be reduced because the overall volume is dumped faster. But I don't believe you have to go too big on the primary squirters because the bores are so small. Lot's of other adjustments can be done with the secondary air door and linkages to minimize flat spots or bogging. (I'm still learning.)

took me a long while to learn tuning technics for TQ's, including writing programs for jets and metering rods [unfortunately, the machine used has been out of production for 25yrs or so]. this also included using a pin vise on the squirters. it was a lot of work, but i really like those carbs now ! i buy them frequently at the swaps for $25 or so, when possible.
