Who is selling the offset cam keys today? It looks like the MP P4286500 key set has been canceled.

I want another set & could not find em. I would suggest a 3 keyway timing chain set of the quality level that you want. Other than that: ebay or CL or maybe another mopar site (FABO wanted might be good).

I have a few of them right now, but a friend called me tonight looking for a 4 deg key. Does anyone know what color that key is?

I have the info in the shop. but it'll be tomorrow before I'll be back out there.

When I built my 408 I needed one that I didn't have and a member sent me one at no charge. A few months later someone here needed one that I did have so I returned the favor that was given to me.

I did later buy a set off the bag.

I have a Mr Gasket one I got from Summit about a year and a half ago. I don't remember the PN. It took months to actually receive it. Good thing I was in no hurry for it. I already had a timing set in my parts pile or otherwise I would have just bought a multi-keyway set instead. I believe the MG key is 4 CAM degrees; i.e. 8 CRANK degrees. I degreed the cam twice with the offset key to make sure I hadn't screwed up and came up with approx 8 degrees more than the straight key both times.

Summit stocks any key you should need. I buy all of mine there.

I only see the "round" BB ones at Summit. the SB ones sorta look like a cam key with the top half of it "shifted/offset" over which shifts the cam gear.

I couldn't find any key for a B/RB other than the 0 degree.

The LA motors and all early(pre 1965) non B/RB and 426 hemi V8 Mopars used the same upper cam keys, including the Chrysler Fire power and Desoto Fire Dome hemi motors work
Mr. Gasket sold them in the past, maybe Hot Heads has them still scope

The Mr. Gasket ones are sometimes listed as small block chevy crankshaft keys.

Re: A Engine Offset Cam Keys? - 03/10/18 01:36 AM

Thanks a lot guys you jinxed me. I'm putting my 572 together today and throw the timing cover on and want to install my ATI damper on to check my timing marks before I install the heads this weekend. Well my machinist must have removed my key to do his work and it didn't get reinstalled. Usually not an issue but this is a Calias crank with a 1/4 inch keyway instead of a 3/16 so it uses a 1/4-3/16 stepped key. I have over 20 keys here but of coarse no stepped keys so I found one on Summits site for 18.00 and it should be here Monday or Tuesday. Oh well I guess I will be building the transmission for it instead. LOL

Just marry two unrelated keys and poof you will a have step key. Like step kids.

Ok, not funny.

I used this one, just remember its the camshaft you are moving, not the crank like this one is made for. If you want 4 degrees advance, get a 2 degree key.

I have a belt drive now and don't have to deal with this but cam timing is based on 720 degrees. So a 4 degree key will affect the Intake Lobe Center 4 degrees. Correct?

That is correct as long as it is a 4 degree cam key not a a 4 degree crank key you are using as a cam key.

I hope you degree this cam in because who knows where it’s installed at. I’ve found them up to 22 degrees off
