Steering column shaft question. - 02/05/18 11:45 PM

Want to verify that one can just change the shaft in a standard steering column to the shorter power steering shaft as part of the conversion to power steering with no other changes to column?

Yes. Make sure you have the power steering box coupler as the splined hole in the manual coupler is bigger than a power steering coupler.

sixpak is correct. I swapped JUST the shaft in my 70 from manual to power. I did have to get a new coupler though because the p/s box input spline is different than the manual box.

I do recommend you put in new upper bearing & lower bushing while you're at it

When I had mine apart and broke the pins I just drilled them out and replaced them with a 10/32 nylon bolt and nut.
