67 GTX air cleaner

67 GTX air cleaner - 01/16/18 08:07 PM

Does this look like the correct air cleaner for a 67 GTX? It came with my car but the previous owner didn't know if it was the original. My friend has a 67 and his air cleaner is similar but is a little different on the front where the indent is (indent is angled more toward the driver side snorkel rather than in the center) but his car has air and mine does not. If it is not for a 67, what do you think it is for?

it looks to be correct for 67 GTX. can't tell the height from your pic. The c body air cleaner looks the same but it is taller. your's has the correct style oval snorkels.

NO, that is not correct.
Looks like a C-body air cleaner.

No, its slightly different and has the barb for the breather in a different location. (67 would be on the driver's side snorkel) That looks like a '69 383 and 440 4 barrel w AC. Very similar though, I would use it if I had it.

Looks like the 69 383/440 air cleaner on Nick's website. The snorkels on mine don't look as long as the C-body piece. My air cleaner diameter is 17" and it is 3 3/8" tall. Each snorkel is 6 1/2" long. It figures though, another item I have to put on my wish list to put my car back to original.

The '67 GTX and Coronet R/T dual snorkel air cleaners always seem to be mixed up. Adding more confusion is the 4 speed air cleaners that didn't have snorkels.

I think it's a '69. 1967 shouldn't have the oil cap nipple. I_think_the overall diameter of the '67 is slightly larger than '68 and '69 as well.

The easiest way to ID a real 67 GTX / Coronet R/T air cleaner is to count the number of indentations on the lid . Their will be 13 of them .

That idea of 4 speeds with no snorkels is just and idea, not a confirmed fact at all.

I have 2 original paint 4 speed cars from LA plant, both have dual snorkel air cleaners. One car was with the original owner for 40 years and that has never been apart.

I believe it is an assembly plant thing.

Could be, like I said adding more confusion, lots of differing opinions on it. All that seems to be a fact is that some did not have the snorkels.

I agree with that, some didn't have snorkels.

That air cleaner in the first pic fits a '69 440 TNT engine. I had that exact air cleaner on my '69 Chrysler 300 'vert with the original 440 TNT.
