Early 8.75 housing ID

Guy called me said he was doing some cleaning and a had a B body 8.75 axle housing I could have no carrier, brakes or axles,I've know what the 64 and older look like have put brakes on one many years ago but if you had a 63 and 68 B body 8.75 bare housing laying side by side it's there a difference? I do know the width but never seen a early one blown apart thanks for any help

The 1965 and later 8 3/4 inner axle seals are quite a bit different looking than the pre 1965 do, I think Look up both inner axle seal numbers and see if they show the same or two different part numbers to make sure I believe the early seals are push further back into the axle housings than the 1965 and later are and look different also

The housings are clearly different on the ends and the spacing on the bolt holes to attach the brakes. 64 and older are all 5 evenly spaced bolt holes.

65 and newer have the top two holes further apart across the top. I can get a picture tomorrow

1962 and older full size cars and trucks have Allen head drain plugs flush on bottom of center of housing to pass side of the weld.

Actually, the housing ends changed in '62 for most models. Even though the '62-'64 retained the tapered axle, the housing end bolt pattern was changed and retained when they went to the flange axle in '65. As stated earlier, the big difference is the depth of the housing bore...the '65-later is deeper (about 2 1/4") and the seal is deeper to accommodate the axle bearing retainer.
