freeze plug fitment issue

SB 360. I have some Dorman 1&5/8" & they practically fall into the block openings & the freeze plug OD is a bit wavy. I did grab one dorman 41/64 which is a hair larger just to see if it would fit & if so then I would get more of that size IF they are available in a thick (wide) version (like the 1&5/8's are that do not fit). is there a better brand that fits tighter? I could go brass if they tend to be tighter. thank you for your time.

How deep are the cups? Some are more shallow then others. The deeper ones worked well for me. Honestly I don`t like Dorman stuff but I don`t remember the brand I used.

the deep 1&5/8 ones are 9/16 "tall" & the 1&11/64 one that fits better but is only a weak 3/8" tall.

IIRC they should be 1 5/8. I think I might have used Sealed Power brand but not 100%

yes the block hole(s) & the Dorman plugs are 1&5/8 but it is way too loose. I'm gonna try a brass one I have & if no go then see if I can find the Sealed Power 1&5/8's you mentioned.

My brass one fits alot tighter (& probably a good idea to use brass anyhow especially on the (2) rear plugs). it says 1635C with no brand. I Googled it as a sealed power # but nothing come up, anyone know what brand it might be?

EPC 1635c pioneer brand. Says its for small block chevy but may fit others.

Dorman shows only steel plugs in slightly over and under size.
I've always checked their catalog, picked up some locally (usually have to order) and pick the one I like best.

sc is shallow cup that you may have, try the .36?

Good info & I may very have had one of their slightly undersize ones (I didn't retrieve a # or take a pic like I should of) but it did about fall into the bore. Now that you mention it I did try a 1&41/64 & it was a tight fit just setting it up to the bore & I was worried that I might crack something if I drove it in & it was steel & haveing always used steel & everyone touting brass I decided to go with brass (at least on the 2 rear hidden ones). I certainly was not expecting the amt of difficulty I had on this simple issue.

The Dorman's I just received (made in China) are obviously now chamferred so they seem loose and go in half-way by hand. It seems to be a manufacturing modification to help us get them started in the hole easier. I don't believe they are defective or too large.

has anyone tried loctite "green" as a sealant for freeze plugs ?

Interesting, I replaced the freeze plugs in a '77 318 and a '68 383 last summer and simply asked for the kit for those motors at Orielys and thought nothing of it.
They fit perfect.
Still no idea what brand they are.
I really should start taking notes.

I've never needed sealant with freeze plugs.

I typically use just a smear of non hardening permatex on the plug, mainly as a "lube". plugs are so tight they will wipe anything from the walls as they are inserted. I like the thought that should there be any scraping or imperfections in the bore walls there is some form of sealant available to plug and not leak. Done it that way for years and never had one leak.

got (20) Pioneer EPC41's coming from Oreillys for $11.22 including shipping which ain't bad. that'll be enough for 2 blocks & an extra or two. these are the ones on the left in the pic. all Done. thanks guys.
