Rear Leaf Springs - OE or Competition - Super Stock?

Rear Leaf Springs - OE or Competition - Super Stock? - 12/26/17 09:25 PM

What type of rear leaf springs did you install on your Mopar? Mopar offers XHD Lead Springs - OE (P4510268 & P4510269 for A-Body) or Competition - Super Stock (P3412002 & P3412003 for A-Body). Just looking for feedback on why you selected the spring and primary vehicle usage.

Can you use Super Stock Springs in Pure Stock?

I had 002/003 SS on a 65 SB dart (came that way as a roller) & it rode high and tight when done (daily driver). I was happy with em.

I run oval track springs

Mopar offers more than the two choices you mention and if you don't mine aftermarket AFCO makes a bunch more choices.

I run them because the spring rate works for me and I do not like poor handling of the jacked up butt look.

I put 002-003 springs on a 71 duster w/500" 440 and also had the adjustable snubber too. It was just a little high in the rear so I put 1" blocks back there to lower it a hair. Worked out well, went 11.20 and was mostly on the street.

I used the 456/457 MP SS springs. They lost their arch and quit working after about a year. They did work well to begin with but started wrapping up horribly.

I went with Cal-Trac split mono's and happy so far! The car wanted completely different torsion bar setting and leaves smooth and level now.

On my (low powered) ‘73 Duster I went with springs and things 1 inch over bent units. These were very much a capable HD spring. Road, drove and handled very well. Launched straight as an arrow. Very pleased. The power was under 400hp. Just a good running toy.

On my ‘70 Duster, I am switching from springs I had in my E body. There the 3600lbs. 460/461 springs. Good in the E body, not so good in the A body. Which is getting lightened. I now have the 863/864 - 2800lbs. springs in there. Yet to test.

I went with XHD on an E set up for handling. They tend to be low which is a good thing in my application. The bias design helps (in theory) coming out of the slow corners. As I got the car sorted, rear spring rate was a little low and the XHD sagged. My local shop added a full leaf for $100. Spring rate and height are just about right now.

since it was a DD I used some cheap parts house A body length ones that I already had on hand & they needed shock extensions which I also happened to have some in my stash. sometimes things go the right way. I shoulda kept it.
