Transmission help - 03/02/09 01:33 AM

Hi everyone, I have been having some transmission troubles and was wondering if anyone could point me out in the right direction on what could be wrong.
My transmission is very hard to put into gear. You have to rev it in N or P then put it in D to get it going. But once its in gear it drives normal. I just replaced the torque converter to a PTC 9.5" and it still does not want to go into gear. The fluid level is wear it should be. Could the line pressure be a cause of this or??

Thanks guys!

Does this happen first time you start the car after it sits for a while. If it is then let it idle in neutral for a few seconds before putting it in gear.It is somewaht normal and is caused tby the fluid draining back. Mopars trams don't pump fluid in park but do in neutral.

It can happen at anytime. Hot or cold. And sometimes it doesnt even go into gear when im trying to pull it out of the garage or something.
Could i overfill it and see if that helps? Maybe a valve is stuck in the valve body or ??

Hello Ori, it's been awhile. What Stumpy said, let it idle for a minute or so in NEUTRAL then see if you're good. Dont overfill it, it is not needing more fluid.

Wonder if the pump is weak? Sounds like it was acting this way before the new convertor?

Yes it was acting this way before the new converter. And it doesnt matter how long i let it sit in N sometimes it does/doesnt want to go into gear.

Sounds like it might be rebuild time.

It needs a freshen up as all or most of the seals are leaking. you could try a bottle of Lucus trans fix but it won't do nothing for the steel sealing rings!

Does it have trouble going into Reverse too or just forward gears?

If it goes into Reverse OK but lags in the forward gears the problem is in the rear clutch, if it lags in both it is a pressure problem (worn pump, internal leakage, clogged filter, etc)
