small block A727 starter location

Hi.

Does anyone have a drawing of the small block automatic showing the exact location of the starter pilot hole? I have found drawings that show the mounting bolts and dowel pins but nothing with the starter location.

if you are just looking for general location to be able to quickly identify the small block transmission, the starter nose locator hole is approximately at the 4o'clock position from the centerline of the input shaft. the big block nose locator is at the 3o'clock position from the input shaft centerline. i may have the true blueprint position some where, but i'll have to look.

Hi. I was looking for some dimensions. I am trying to locate this in a CAD model for an oil pan design.

i found this in an old direct connection chassis manual. if you blow it up some, it might get you started.

That drawing is for bellhousings. Not sure if it's the same place on a 727.

true, but bolt patterns, dowel locations should be the same. the big thing to consider is the ring gear on the converter and flywheel will determine the starter location [i think]. i know there are [at least] two diameter/teeth count flywheels. is it possible the torque converter ring gear diameter/tooth count is common to one of the flywheels ? i have a converter ring gear off on the shelf. i'll grab it and report back on it's specs.

He didn't ask for those, because none of that information will affect the OIL PAN he's working on. The starter location will, which for the record is not provided in that drawing anyway..

well, i tried.......

if that drawing could be blown up to a "true" 1:1, the starter location could be measured within .005-.010 by using known points. i have done that in the past many times with great accuracy when dimensions were inadvertently left of of prints.

That might work, assuming the drawing is to scale. Odd that it does show for the BB one

my thoughts also. i'm thinking i "may" have a print somewhere that shows an overlay of the back of an early hemi against the bellhousing of a late small block 727. i'll have to look for that.
