Do 70 Challengers always have the inset dash script?

Do 70 Challengers always have the inset dash script? - 12/12/17 06:45 AM

Looked at one today that I thought had to be a dash swap. Has a name plate instead of the inset script. Also had the seat belt light, like a reverse light in a 4 speed car. So from a 74?

Then tonight I was cruising eBay and see a 70 with the plate on the dash also. That car looks like a full resto with a decent amount spent. Hard to imagine some one dropped that much and used the wrong year dashpad, but anything is possible.

1970 had script, 1971-1974 had the name plaque.
As far as the deluxe seat belt package , that gave you the 1971 and up style seat belts , and the seat belt light on the dash (looks just like the rev light for a 4speed car ) and this option became available somewhere around
Feb or March 1970 if I recall .

My November of '69 SBD Challenger has the deluxe seat belt package.
I've seen cars that had both a 4 speed and the deluxe seat belt package, they have 2 light bezels on the dash, side by side near the ash tray. The reverse one is amber and the fasten belts one red.
As far as the Challenger script, I've see more than a few '70s with the plate rather than the script, but I've always assumed it was sloppy parts gathering during restoration, not that any were built that way.

The seller said “the original owner traded parts out with people so he got cash and still had a whole car.” So I just assumed the whole dash was swapped by somebody wanting the correct 70 dash. Maybe just pad got changed if you could get the deluxe belts. Fender tag is gone, seller has had car for 20 years.

Remember if the dash has been changed better double check those VIN numbers

The seatbelt light bezel wasn't on the dash pad, it is on the dash frame between the ash tray and glovebox. The only differences in dash pads in 1970 was color, 3 speaker or single speaker, and AC vs non AC. The Challenger script was always there regardless.
I've seen a lot of '70s with ash trays in the console too, the fact they are in restored cars today doesn't mean any were built that way in '70 either.

I just did some work on a 70 Challenger with deluxe seat beats. According to the guy here on the board that restores belts, the 70 deluxe and 71 up are slightly different because of the buttons. This one had the seat belt bezel right beside the reverse light on the lower dash. Mastershake, does your Challenger have the seat belt retracter under the carpet like most 70 cars or the plastic encased unit like on a 71. This car had regular front belts and deluxe rear belts. It is missing the shoulder belts. We are looking for the proper front 70 deluxe belts and they are hard to find.

From what I've seen, it appears that the deluxe seat belt option(C15) with a manual trans on a Challenger SE or other E body with overhead consolette(C26) would only get you the reverse light/bezel. The seat belt light was already in the overhead.

My seatbelt retractors are under the carpet like other '70s. Here is a picture showing my dash.

This car did not have the overhead console.
