Who knows Winches? Can it be repaired ? - 12/05/17 11:51 PM

I have a Mile Marker winch on my car hauler. It appears to have given up the ghost. A test shows my solenoid is good so it’s the winch motor. I can’t find replacement motors for it so I’m wondering if it’s toast ? It sits inside a tool box so it’s in decent shap. Just wondering. And if it’s a goner what’s a decent brand for a replacement?

How about giving them a shout?

Easier than cobbling something together.

There is probably an electric motor rebuilding shop in Boise that could help. The more you disassemble and clean, the lower the bill will be.

I believe they have brushes. Could be just a brush issue - personally I would whack it with a hammer to see what happens. If works its a brush issue. If that don't work I would tear it apart and look at the brush assembly.

My Superwinch has circuit breakers that are go on the battery. I have had those go out twice. It will be two or three little rectangular boxes on a buss. However this may not apply to you.

Can you apply known battery power directly to the motor?

Mile Marker is known for their hydraulic winches. Is yours hydraulic with electric controls or electric?

Ever had a Chrysler starter apart, ever rebuild one? Stator, armature, brushes, bushings or bearings at either end of the stator, maybe a relay wih contacts needing cleaning. Most DC motors are similar in construction. You got nothing to lose. Sand the contacts on the stator, clean the spaces between them, brushes can made or bought. Clean all the dust out, oil the bushings/bearings, etc. If you can rebuild a carb you can do a dc motor. Take pictures as it comes apart and have at it. Or an alternator/starter rebuild shop might tackle it.

Is it reversible or in only? How do you control it, wireless or handheld controller ? How old is this unit, when was it made ?
