340 Motor Mounts - 11/30/17 04:12 AM

I am going to replace my motor mounts this Winter. Are there any better than average that you would suggest? Any to stay away from?
Street E body.

Thanks

I've had a set of stock mounts on my 340 Cuda for 27 years on three different engines and still in great shape.

Re: 340 Motor Mounts - 11/30/17 04:30 AM

I plan on pulling them and checking them out first. But I want an idea of what to get in case they are bad.
NAPA shows a generic description on their web sight. I don't want the high dollar Year One items. Anyone bought new mounts lately that fit the 340?

None of the parts store mounts are good. Especially stay away from Anchor or anything else made in India...

For anything I own & drive, solid mount the driver side & stock on the other side.

The cheap ones at the auto stores don’t fit well without grinding to fit on the last two cars I did. I’ve used “ Mighty Mounts”. There on the web. They are not cheap.

I run solids on both sides, they do raise my engine higher up than i like because of my Shaker..and they do rattle the whole car...but then again, I love it..

Thanks for the replies.
How rough does it feel with one solid mount?

Re: 340 Motor Mounts - 12/01/17 04:07 AM

No noticeable change.

Re: 340 Motor Mounts - 12/01/17 04:10 AM

Well, as far is vibrations.

A noticeable change can be felt in the throttle response some because the engine will no longer torque over.

Re: 340 Motor Mounts - 12/01/17 04:13 AM

Mine torques over too much in my eyes which has me wanting to pull them and check them out.
Any recommendation on a solid?

Thanks!

I use this type;

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mor-62540/overview/make/dodge

Sold as a pair, so one pair does two cars if only used on the driver side.

Re: 340 Motor Mounts - 12/01/17 08:01 AM

I use to race NHRA stock, a lot of the Mopar SB A body racers would weld a strap between the upper and lower parts on the intire length of the left mount(drivers side) to make those stock mounts solid, do both sides, front ands rear, not the tops and bottoms scope twocents

What about the Schumacher torque straps with the original style motor mounts?
Thanks

Someone said something about filling the gaps in the black material with something, I forgot what, silicone/TRS? for additional support.

the filler material i have used for this [spool type mount] is just common windshield urethane in a caulking gun tube. works great, and it's not picky on manufacturer brand. just clean the holes well. i use lacquer thinner. hope this helps.

It sure does & I was wishing I had asked that very question when I posted above as I have spools on the stock car & it reminded me that it would be advantageous if I filled em.

when i fill those holes, i make a cardboard pattern that fits around the bottom side [doesn't matter which side, as you will do this while mount is on it's side], then i cut a piece of wax paper to fit this pattern. tape the wax paper/cardboard [i just use a couple of pieces of double side tape] pattern to the outside of the mount, lay it on it's side, and fill the holes. let the urethane cure according to the directions. the wax paper then peels off the bottom side of the urethane, leaving a smooth surface. makes quite a difference in the mount "stiffness". if you don't have any wax paper, other stuff to use is a thin coating of wheel bearing grease, silicone grease, etc. the object is to have something the urethane will not stick to when it sets up.

After breaking two driver side auto store mounts, I replaced it the third time along with the Schumacher mount. No problems after that.

I am planning on checking my current mounts. If they are good, then I will be adding the Schumaker torque strap too with the stock mounts.
Thanks!

I meant to say Schumacher strap but you got it. Yep-can't go wrong with that set up.
