1976 Road runner

On a 1976 Volare .Road Runner edition, with 360 and t- flight,, what trans 904 or A- 727.. and what rear .. 8. 1/4 ???Thanks for any help ....

by the dist, look down along the top sloped bellhousing of the trans & if there is a circular "bump" all the way around the trans case down where the angle starts to turn back horizontle then it is a 904 or look at the pan & if it is a square with a corner cutout then it is a 904 (727 has a dogleg). On the rear, count the bolts on the center section & are they in front or rear. 7&1/4 has a bolt on rear cover with 9 or 10 bolts & it (the cover) looks like a mini Dana. iirc the 8&1/4 is an oval shaped bolt on.

Thanks Robert, I can tell the difference between a 904 and a727, If I could look at it, But it isn't near by..Just looking to buy one and wanted to know what it had before a hundred mile trip same with the rear , I just gotta look at it ..But thanks anyway !!

They came both ways. Is the 360 a 4 barrel? If so I would lean towards a 727. Same with the rear axle. They came both ways but I would think the 360 came with a 8 1/4. My 77 with a 360 two barrel came with a 8 1/4 and 904 trans.

Yep, I'm betting 8.25 rear and 904 trans.

All 1976 360 F bodys were 2 barrel, 999 (HD904), 8 1/4. The 727 fits without issue. By changing the lower shock plates to the standard non-iso (no rubber blocks) you can bolt in a 70 and earlier B-body 8 3/4. By pulling on the springs slightly it will line up. Only 3/8" wider per side. Standard 727 A-body drive shaft will work with the 727/ 8 3/4 combo. I've owned my Super-Pak Road Runner since 1977.

Off topic but I remember seeing later ('75? and up) B body Runners, Coronetes, and Furys. Was this a one year only thing?
When did they go to the (M-body?) Volare style?
I believe that line ended in '80.

I have a ragged 80 road runner next to my garage, and I agree, 75 was on a B body still.

'75 B body Roadrunner was 1 year only. Very possibly the ugliest RR ever.

'76-80 were F bodies.

Although I kinda liked the 2 door '75 B bodies, better than the '73 or '74's.

I kinda thought the 75 RR was cool also. I have always liked different.
