Tranny front pump seal - 10/22/17 02:02 PM

Replaced the bushing and gears in my front pump, is it true that I should pack the gears with vaseline before putting it all back together?

Also

I know there is some type of sealer that Im supposed to use on the pump seal before I press it into the front pump housing but I dont know what kind.

I think alot of seals have a sealer embedded in the circumfrence of the seal already but mine does not appear to have anything although there is a very thin red coating and I understand that maybe thats all there is?

I ask cause the seal I took out has the same red coating but there ALOT more of it, so much that Ill have to clean the old dried up residue that still stuck to the inside of the pump flange.

don't know about the sealer, but pack the back side of the seal where the spring is with vaseline to keep the spring from popping out. i learned this the hard way.......

I've never seen a pump seal without a garter spring, look again.

Seals with a metal outer ring and flange are usually coated but I always add a thin coat of RTV. Seal with a rubber outer ring goes in dry.

Packing the pump gears would probably help get pressure up quicker. Not a bad idea.
