Late model 440 HP block - 10/05/17 02:47 AM
Picked up a car today that has a 440 engine with these on the pad. E 440, a Maltese cross, and HP. Didn't pay attention to assembly date, and didn't see or notice an 8T. It's a 1978 block, 4006630. Curious about the HP stamp on a cast crank engine. Is this a police car eng? Engine is in a 69 GTX clone.

If it is a '78 block then the E is wrong. Maybe someone restamped the block to make it appear to be original for a '69 car.
If the casting date on the side says 1978 then someone tried to cheat someone at some point.

The "E" stamp should designate a cast crank engine in 1978. Initially I thought it was a 69 engine, because that's all I could see until i took off a spark plug wire holder

The second T behind the 440 ID's it as a truck motor. Could have been forged crank.

I’ll get pics in a day or so. Not at my house.

so it looks like:
1979
440
cast crank
August 11th assembly
Maltese cross with an X= .010 undersized crankshaft

Yeah someone crudely added the E in front of the 440 to make it look like it was a '69 block. Very poor job attempt at fraud. Right up there with making a Xerox copy of a $100 bill and seeing if someone will take it.
