'70 Challenger decklid and 1/4 panel trim hardware - 09/21/17 04:52 AM

So I bought a decklid and 1/4 panel trim hardware kit and am not sure how and the order in which the metal bolt thigies and plastic clips go. This kit has 8 bolt things and 5 plastic clips. There are 3 holes for each 1/4 trim and 7 for the deck lid so that is good that they equal the same number. Also which way do the "antenae" on the bolts go? If anyone has a picture of the hardware installed on the trim it would be great.

The metal studs go on the quarter end trim, the plastic retainers on the trunk lid (chrome snaps onto it),.....and I believe.... there are studs on the very end of the trunk lid chrome, one on each end.

Yes, that is correct. Or at least how mine are done.

Plastic go in deck lid wholes, set them in place then push in the center to expand them so they stay in place... trim snaps into place over them. Metal clip, can only go 2 ways... put them in and turn the way the nut would spin and you'll figure out the correct way.

Thanks guys up I am a little leery of snapping the trim over these plastic clips nervous but I will give it a go. So 1/4 panel trim gets all 3 metal studs a piece and the trunk trim gets the studs on the ends and the 5 middle spots get the plastic retainer. The plastic retainers get installed onto the decklid itself. Seems like it will be tricky to snap the decklid trim on and get the end studs into their holes. I guess you wanna start with the top of the trim and then snap it over the bottom of the plastic retainers?

Would there be any reason you couldn't use all metal studs and bypass the plastic retainers all together? I imagine they serve some purpose besides being cheaper than the metal studs.

I believe it is a clearance issue, stud tip to trunk seal? (not an issue at the ends)
Yes, trim to top, snap over bottom.

Won't those studs clip into the trim piece first? Then you can slide them to line up the holes?

Yes, but if I have to snap the trim strip onto the plastic retainers, not sure if they will go happily into their holes at the same time.

They will as they are long enough to start the hole before the trim snaps to the plastic. I did my '72 but it's been so long ago that I couldn't remember.
