Who makes the best 7290 joint now?

I have always used the Spicer forged joints in the past and not had any trouble. I understand that they are no longer forged, but cast. Is that true?

So, whose 7290 do you use? Something that will hold a 1.5 60' with 3,800lbs.

I know I should go to 1350s. And might, just not right now.

Thanks!

I've heard good on Spicer and Neapco. I would use a solid (no zerk) one.

Spicer says that their joints are "cold forged". And they still offer a non-greasable version.

5-811X runs about $24 or so.

And it seems that Lakewood offers an expensive 7290.

So, I think I will order a 5-811X Spicer.

If you could confirm that your choice is made in the USA that would be a smart move. On a side note, after installation confirm that it moves freely in both planes on the front yoke & the one plane on the rear ujoint, smoothly & no binding & if not then whack the "ears" till it does.

Spicer non-greasable "snap-tite" U-joints are the best.

They require a little more attention during installation, however.

2nd on the spicer 5-811x, neapco are good too. The last time I checked the spicer had more and smaller needles, which left the cross .010 bigger in diameter than the other brands. Mic the cross bearing surface diameter, bigger is better.

I used to burn through a Neapco in about a year but the spicers would last for years...
