im going to do the front disc conversion on my 70 runner.wilwood kit seems likely but how do strange,summit,and cant think of the name off hand but they advertise in the mope mags that use what looks like a gm caliper stack up?thanks for any info you can provide.

Not up on the aftermarket kits but you do know you can use A-body parts on yours?

I used the whole spindle off a Diplomat cop car on my 72.Direct bolt on. A couple new hoses and a master cylinder swap and it stops on a dime.

Try www.scarebirds.com I bought the bracket hardware from them, and then I went to napa/advanced and purchaced my choice of GM parts. They work well with my manual set up. I have about 10k miles on the dart w/14 inch rallys. Give em a call they can e-mail you the parts list and instructions before you buy..

Yes, the above is a great link ... if you want to scare birds away !!! It won't help with your brake swap.

This is just my

NOTE: This is counter to what everyone else is saying on here.

Having been there and done a 70-B Body disc brake swap, (from 4 way power drum) I would personally recommend the setup from master power brakes...

If you think you can do it any cheaper/ any
better I would tell you from bitter experience, that's not really true.

You can do it cheaper...
But your braking performance/experience behind the wheel, might not match your expectation.
and that's why your converting in the first place isn't it?

I would strongly recommend that kit with the power booster and the master cylinder from
MP Brakes...

Your brake lines to your drum metering valve
can stay there, just get the disc brake
A-Body metering valve (from inline tube)

That way you don't change your brake lines...

Best of luck to you either way!!!

Also, your drum brake steel wheels if they are
original 14x5 drum wheels will not fit.

you need a 14x5.5 disc brake wheel.
Check you salvage yards 1977-78 Plymouth volare
Dodge Aspen...same wheels slightly larger offset
They work perfect with the A-body swap
(Which is all the MP brakes kit is really)...

Once you get the kit setup right..
it is a BIG improvement over front drum!

Just remember, at the end of the day..
The KEY To all of these parts working right
is pressure out of the master cylinder.

There are so many choices these days that I don't think there is a universal answer.

For instance, I'd never consider putting a MP brake kit on any car I worked on but I tend to work on stuff where the owner is going to take the car to regular track days. For those customers we only use Brembo calipers, typically Porsche or Viper setups. I tend to install 13 inch kits with aluminum hubs and custom wheels. But that kind of stuff costs about $2000 per axle.

On the other hand, low end kits like the MP and SST stuff are the perfect solution for daily drivers, especially if the owners aren't very handy and don't want to slog thru wrecking yards looking for 11.75 setups.

There is also a whole universe of guys who are handy with a wrench but don't have a lot of money and for those folks the factory 11.75 conversion is a super deal.

And of course, the drag race guys prefer lightweight brakes since they only stop once every hour or so. So they have a bunch of choices from Wilwood, Aerospace, etc to pick from.

This kit from Speedway looks like the ticket !! Everything you need in one box. Could it REALLY be done that much cheaper scavenging wrecks and buying the odd new parts !! Everything here is NEW - there is a value in that !!! It's ALL Mopar too.

No you can't get cheaper than that. Only problem is the kit uses the smaller rotor. I did the Mopar Action 11.75 swap. Despite what everyone say, it ends up costing as much as the kit.

Unless you get the spindle and caliper adapter from the junkyard (your time is worth something) it adds up.

I've never seen used spindles and 11.75 adapters go for less than $150 - $200.

They are only about a half mile from me & in fact I used to work in their machine shop. They are fairly quality conscious there but it is mostly chebby orientated. they consider returns to be a great profit reducer/time waster and are real anal about that so make your parts selection carefully & ask as many pertinent questions as you need to even if the tech has to go get someone else to ans all your Q's before you place your order. EDIT a defective part is a different story but mainly they want customers to get the right part(s) the FIRST time & there's not a lot of Mopar knowledge there so take all the time you need with them.
