I know that my '72 Cuda was TB3, Basin Street Blue, which was Petty Blue.

I've wondered myself.

Is there a chart for these designations? I would like to see one

Basic alphabet to year.

The first letter is the series (model year) the color was first used.

FF4 - F series, 1970 model year.

GB5 - G series - 1971 model year.

TX9 goes back to a prior alphabet / series set.

Is TB3 the same color as the 1970 Petty Blue on the Superbird?

We can go a bit further yet.

The last numbers are light to dark. Low number for a light shade like Banana - FY1

High number for dark like Black - TX9

Thus, EB3 blue is lighter than EB5 blue & EB7 blue is even darker yet.

it's a "rule of thumb" not an absolute

FY1 - 1970 series "lemon twist"
(D)Y2 - 1968 series "sunfire yellow" (paint code "S" during 1968)
GY3 - 1971 series "curious yellow"
FY4 - 1970 series "citron mist metallic"

We can go even further yet. These examples show a paint code of 15A, these were test spray out colors done to evaluate possible future color use.

Here's a question: Has anyone ever created a master list that has each year's colors with the year designation? This would be an undertaking, especially considering some colors were offered model specific (i.e. 1970 Y2 Plymouth only, or Imperial deep colors).

Like range of years for WW1 vs EW1.
This thread TB3 replacing EB3 in 1972 is perfect example where a list would help (but confusing since 999 was available "Petty Blue" earlier). Speaking of 999, that would add another layer to the list.

I couldn't find a quick reference list, so started one for myself. The only way I know how is to compare each year paint chip info with Chrysler DT/PPG code to see what year it applied and when it changed.

I gave up, it was a huge task. Has anyone with a slant towards paint, like Cuda Cody, done this?

It is best to stay within one model year at a time & the paint chip charts available already cover that information.

The codes changed when the formula changed.

shruggy perhaps when Chrysler went to the 3-digit paint code (1970 model year) their maintained internal documents only went back 7-years to 1963??

the black paint codes are the same in 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964 "Sherwin Williams Color Manuals" that I have - I don't have actual Chrysler Corp. information

TB3 (was never officially "Petty Blue") in '72 it received an advertising/marketing name "basin street blue"/"super blue" - prior to that it was one of the corporate identity colors "Corporate Blue" that existed before 1963 as well

Maybe I don't use the right charts, the Ditzler/PPG ones don't have year first started?

So for F8:
EF8 43786 Dark Green Poly 69-70 Dodge
HF8 2514 Forest Green Poly 72 Dodge
HF8 2514 Dark Green Poly 73 Dodge
GF7 2317 Dark Green Poly 71 Dodge

I guess you can get around the year designation by just saying "F8". But when I see a deep shade of green metallic car, I usually say or type EF8 because that's what I'm familiar with, if I said it for 72-73 I would be wrong. And if I saw a 71 it's still named Dark Green Poly, not "F8", but F7 or GF7.

Just wondering if there was a quicker list to reference without having every paint chip chart from 62-75 in front of you. Like I know 70 Cuda's from memory, but not 73 Chally's or 68 Chargers without reference.
