magnum efi question - 06/05/08 03:17 AM

I am dropping a 01 5.9 magnum in my 65 coronet. Using the stock throttle body.
I just got to look at it again today, and realized that the cable hook ups are on the wrong side. Plus it has to move backwards.
Is there already a kit for this somewhere?
If not how did others get around this?

I used a throttle cable off a dakota, long enough to loop around the front.

The Dak/Mag cable has a square end on the firewall end, and it's easy enough to make that work. I did that on my Valiant, but the cable locating hole is in the pedal assembly. I'm not sure how the 65 B-body setup looks though. I don't think you can rotate the TB on the manifold at all due to the IAC air passage, but I haven't played with a stock Maggie TB in a long time, either.

Ok, that might work for the cable.
What about the kickdown?

You're using a "normal" 727, aren't you? I'm not sure how that operation was handled on the 500/518 boxes, and I don't remember what the 518 I just got looks like. IIRC, the kickdown was on the opposite end of the TB from the throttle/cruise cables, using the same bracket. You might be able to whip up a tidy little bracket to mount on the trans and use the Maggie cable to pull on the 727 lever.

Ah, that's how it goes.
Clair, you are right, you cannot reverse the tb. That was the first thing I thought of. It would screw with the iac.

If no one makes a kit, then feets wants to build a bracket that holds both the original cable and kickdown on one bar, and a bell crank to move a second rod or cable to actuate the tb arm.

I was just hoping someone had already fixed this problem.

518/500's throttle pressure lever is the same as an older 904/727 IIRC, so I'd think you could use a magnum cable on it.

Just grap every thin from the 518 or 500 trans. All the linkages and brackets ect are all the same in the way they bolt on. They bolt right on to a 727 0r 904. I did this with my old 72 scamp. It worked real nice.

I used the Bouchillon kickdown cable kit (which I think is just late 90s Ram Van cable). Scratch made the brackets from some sheet aluminum. Found an old pic from PHR.

Thanks. Looks like I am making a yard run to get the cables and stuff off a extended cab truck in the area.
