Advice on rear end swap, with Caltracs

Advice on rear end swap, with Caltracs - 06/21/17 11:17 PM

Never swapped out rear ends before, taking out stock 8.25 and installing 8.75 (rear discs, new axles), and will also be installing Caltracs.

Anything that is nice to know before tackling this project, any order of operation tips etc?

I like to disconnect lines,cables,driveshaft,etc... Then the u-bolts and remove the shackles and roll the rear out.
I like to use braided stainless lines and plumb the calipers to the body. That way if you need to remove the rear you don't need to open the brake system in the future. Cal-Tracs seem to work better with sliders VS shackles. If you have a heavy car and a hard hitting drivetrain go for the +1" mono leafs. My mono leafs started sagging and went flat after a few years.

Thanks for the input. I went with the stock settings for mono leafs to start with, Caltracs allow a one time exchange at no charge, so I figured start out at zero and if I need to go +- then I can make the free exchange.

Is this for a street driven car? If so, you better buy a kidney belt.

Yes a street car that will see the track 2-3 times a year. I riden in cars with Ctracs, not that bad at all if the ride is kept under 90 minutes at a time.
