1971 SPD / Door tag / Casting ?

1971 Duster 340 SPD is 6/01 .... Door tag read 5/1971 .... Casting on block is 1/18/71 Does this seem to be correct?

Certainly not unusual. What's the assembly date on the block look like ?

As long as they are in chronological order, IMHO you're good. Chrysler didn't have a very efficient inventory system. Again that's in my opinion, but it comes up so often.

I have a 340 block that was cast in 3/71 IIRC and went into a 72 car

is it an orange "GW340" Windsor assembled engine or a blue "GM340" Mound Rd. assembled engine

what transmission?

SPD of 6/1/71 (601) is "SCHEDULED"
door tag of "5 - 71" represents the car's build being completed by Friday 5/28/71

Not able to read it without scrapping paint ... 4-speed car ... Blue engine

what does the VIN stamping look like? you are going to have to scrape paint if you want to know the answer to the question that wasn't asked?

Stamping looks good, Just thought the casting date and SPD were a bit too far apart ...

I have a '71 340 engine
VIN: 1B450330
stamped: GM340P 3567 0071

CAST: 1/20/71
EAD: 5/4/71
car's SPD: early July

angle & location of the 2 "GM340" stampings are nearly identical

How does this break down to a date?.... GM340P 3567 0071

3567 is the date based on the 10000 calendar

0071 is the 71st engine built that day
