Is this 46RH or 47RH transmission?

Is this 46RH or 47RH transmission? - 05/09/17 05:42 AM

So I've been keeping an eye out for the automatic overdrive transmission over the years. Recently a local ad popped up for a unit advertised as 46RH including an ATP rebuild-kit.

I took a look at it, it has the 3 pin overdrive connector which is telling me this is a lock-up unit.

The following is stamped on the side of the pan: PK5211916:23552105, where the ":" is either some sort of a separator character or just an garbled character.

Anyways, looking around I could not find anything on Google (or here) that mapped to the PK5211916 number. However, my archived copy of the 2009-2010 Mopar Reman Parts catalog shows PK52119160 transmission as the unit for 1994-95 Truck, BR Body 4x4, 8.0L and is identified as a 47RH.

Sooo....any other way for me to tell whether this is a 46RH or 47RH just by looking at the trans or the input shaft, sensors, etc?

Thanks!

Pretty sure the 3 pin connecter is the determining sign for the 46RH.
Newer tranny has a circular 5 pin connecter, I believe.

Got mine out of a 95 B3500 van

Looks like it's the same as the 46, but HD and case has extra webbing on passenger side

The differance is the bell housing. The 47RH is for the diesel and V10 only. It won't bolt to your small block.

Yeah, the transmission was already out of the vehicle and I picked it up second hand...the seller thought it came out of a '95 Dakota, but no guarantees. I only looked at the 3pin connector and thought "good, it's not a RE version, I can work with that".

I will take a peek at the case re-inforcing markings...although I can say that my spare 727 dust cover did fit correctly. Not sure if the lower section of the V10 bell housing is the same as the 727 though, so this on it's own may not be telling me much.

Is this for your Diplomat? When you're ready to make modifications, let me know. I can swing out and show you exactly what needs to be removed from the cross-member to make it fit.

The bell housing is totally different and your lower shield would not match up to a V10 or diesel so you have a 46RH there.

47rh/re has a big block bolt pattern the cummins motors are adapted to that pattern. 46rh/re is small block.

yeah, I would love to toss that into my Dippy...is it just the cross-member that needs a re-do, or does the floor need modifications as well? I seem to remember from the old Dippy.org threads that you had to re-work your floor...???

Alright, thanks you guys!!!

For a while there I wasn't sure if I just spent the money on neither the transmission nor the rebuild-kit I could actually use. LOL

Cutting the tunnel out isn't necessary - only the cross member and that can be done cleanly by drilling the spot welds. Give me a call sometime.

Nope, that is incorrect, not even close to a big block either. It has to swallow a huge converter.
