Explorer & Viper disk brake wheel fits !! - 01/22/05 04:06 PM

Aftr much research as to what will fit and what will not fit, I am posting this "valuable info"

What will not fit.

Factory Rallye 15x7 ( would need @3/8" spacer)
Wheel Vintique 15x7 ( comes closer than a Factory )
Wheel Vintique 15x 8
Factory 15" HEMI wheel ( worst fit of the bunch)

What fits.

Factory 15x7JJ steelie ( provides a 1/8" clearance to caliper)
Factory 15x7 Cop wheel.( best fit)

Weight of wheels..

WV 15x7 Rallye w / trim ring, center cap, lug nuts. 27lbs 10 oz
WV 15x 8 as above 29 lb 4 0z

15x7 Steelie with Dog Dish , open lug nuts..24 lb 9 0z
15x7 Cop wheel with DD , open lug nuts ..27 lb 1 oz

I bet 15" Magnums won't fit either. I think those use 14" style wheel centers also.

Thanks for posting that info. I know it cost you a bunch of time (and probably some money) to learn all of that.

How is the car project coming along? Back down on the ground yet?

VP, you sure went through alot trouble to figure that one out.
which type of rims are you going to use or is there much of a choice in the matter?
i just wonder if the later style Mustang GT wheels would work, the ones that look like the Torque Thrust "D"

Could you break it down as to which ones fit the Viper stuff only? Was there much difference between the fitment of the wheels on the Explorer kit vs. the Viper setup?

I did not notice any differance between what would fit the Viper vs what would fit the Explorer.

Add 15x6.5" factory Ralleye's to the list of those that don't fit.

I had a pair that came off a later model vehicle (Cordoba?)and figured they might be slightly different than the early Ralleye's. They weren't.

My steelie JJ's fit just fine like yours did.
