68 Barracuda, Fuel Tank Vent

What all does the fuel tank vent consist of on a 68 barracuda fastback? I see a hose running off of the filler neck, does that just go into the frame rail somewhere?

The car is fuel injected and I have had some fuel heating issues. I have never touched the vent on the car in the 22 years I have owned it. So when I got home with hot fuel and a screaming fuel pump I popped the gas cap and it had a lot of pressure in it, way more than i would have ever thought. So that has me thinking I need to address a vent situation. It has never seemed to have issues of pulling a vacuum on the tank but I was surprised to hear and feel the volume of pressure come out when I popped the cap. Thoughts?

Stock fuel tank, baffled sump welded in for EFI, OEM line plugged at sender, and fuel is returned in the spare tire area of the tank.(took out spare tire well)

That small hose is the vent from the tank up to the filler. Sounds like you removed the hose, and plugged the nipple at the tank, and so it now has no vent. You might need a vented gas cap. Or redo the stock/original hose vent set up.

I have never touched the hose coming off of the filler neck, there was never any additional vents on the tank. The only thing plugged is the original fuel line pickup that I no longer use because I added the sump. I guess I need to pull that hose off the filler neck and see if it is plugged.

That vent line that starts near the top of the filler tube goes down through the same rubber gasket as the filler tube and terminates with an open end on top of the gas tank below the spare tire well. Usually black gum is deposited there.

External Fuel pump? I betcha it is not plumbed properly that is why your fuel pump is cavatating. Put the fuel pump in the tank, is the best way. I am not betting on the vent being the problem. My

Actually The '68 cuda does not have any nipples on the tank. The small hose vents from the top of the filler neck down into the left frame rail.

Oddly enough just this past Friday morning I was thinking about how the tank in my car vented since I had replaced it with a new one in SS. I went and dug out the original tank and it did not have a nipple. Disaster averted!

Also the stock line is small and at the top end they put a small flare so the hose doesn't slide off. On mine it almost closed off the end of the tube!
